PEPTIVA DSIP META-5 NASAL PEN contains Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide (DSIP), a naturally occurring nonapeptide (9 amino acids) with the sequence Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu, first isolated in 1977 from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits during electrically induced sleep. DSIP has a molecular weight of 849 Da and readily crosses the blood-brain barrier. It acts on multiple sleep-regulatory systems simultaneously — reducing basal corticotropin (ACTH) levels to lower hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity, modulating GABA-A receptor sensitivity to promote inhibitory neurotransmission, and influencing serotonin and dopamine turnover rates in key brain regions.
